There’s a pretty fun and whimsical holiday around the corner. March 3 rd is If Pets Had Thumbs Day! As you may know, the fact that we have opposable thumbs is often credited with propelling humanity to our current state. What do you think your pet would do if they suddenly woke up with working thumbs? A local Crown Point, IN vet offers a few suggestions below.
Scratch That Itch
It’s probably safe to say that one of the first things your pet would do would be to grab a backscratcher and get that itchy spot!
Ransack The House
If your pets grew thumbs overnight, you would probably be in for a bit of a shock when you returned home. You may find every package of food in your fridge and cupboard opened. If you have a dog, Fido would probably be sleeping off a food coma. Cats are usually a bit more restrained when it comes to food, but they’re also very curious. Fluffy would probably ransack every box and drawer in your house, and then knock every glass in your cupboard onto the floor.
Hitchhike
Fido would immediately put his thumbs to good use by letting himself out of the house and trying to catch a ride to his favorite spot. Where would your pup be headed? His favorite park would be a good bet!
Online Shopping
You’d be in for a few headaches if your four-legged pal figured out one-click shopping. Fido would probably order lots of steaks, toys, tennis balls, and meat-and-cheese gift baskets. As for Fluffy, she’d probably go for things like kitty beds, catnip, and cat trees, as well as some completely random items, like a deluxe cookware set or a 3D printer.
Go Fishing
If there were one activity that would appeal to both Fido and Fluffy, it would likely be fishing. Although March may be a bit chilly for this one, we suspect that many of our canine patients would still happily head for the nearest fishing hole. Or, they may decide to try every spot in the region, from Bingo Lake to Turkey Creek. Cats like to stay closer to home, so Fluffy may settle for ordering live fish online.
