Some of the signs that your pet may need urgent medical attention include:
- Difficulty breathing
- Ingestion of a toxic substance or foreign object
- Broken bones
- Cuts, lacerations or puncture wounds
- Vomiting or diarrhea lasting longer than 24 hours
- Bleeding
- Trauma, such as from a fall or being hit by a car
- Swollen or tender abdomen
- Difficulty urinating
- Lameness
- Disorientation
- Foaming at the mouth
- Convulsions/seizures
- Loss of consciousness
If you notice any of these signs, seek assistance right away. At Southlake Animal Hospital, we always recommend calling ahead when an emergency occurs. This allows us to evaluate the situation, provide first aid instructions and prepare the hospital and our team for your pet’s arrival.
Please also note that we may be limited in terms the number of cases we can take on a given day. As such, we may occasionally need to refer to one of our nearby partners.
