Keeping Your Cat Entertained

July 1 2019

Does your cat stay home alone while you go to work? If so, you’ll need to take steps to keep your feline buddy entertained while you’re out. Fluffy may get anxious and depressed if she has nothing to do all day! A local Crown Point, IN vet offers some tips on beating kitty boredom in this article.

Playtime

Take a few minutes a day to play with your kitty. This will be great for your furry pal physically, as all those jumps, pounces, and butt wiggles make a great workout. Playing is also great for Fluffy’s mind!

Window Seat

Fluffy can amuse herself for hours by just looking out the window and watching birds, squirrels, people, and, well, whatever else happens past. Give your kitty a comfy window seat, so she can relax and sunbathe while observing the neighborhood happenings.

Toys

Offer Fluffy a variety of playthings. You’ll want some interactive toys that you can use to play with your pet, like laser pointers and wand toys. Your cute furball will also need some things she can play with by herself, such as catnip mice and little rubber balls. Cats all have their own unique tastes, so pay attention to what Fluffy seems to like.

Plants

While your furball will be both safer and healthier staying indoors, she may enjoy having some plants to sniff at, nibble on, and hide behind. Just be sure to stick with pet-safe options. You can find a full list of safe and unsafe plants at the ASPCA website here .

Nooks And Crannies

Cats are very curious, and enjoy exploring little nooks and crannies. Boxes, pet tents, paper bags, and newspaper tunnels can be lots of fun for Fluffy! Move things around regularly to keep things fun and fresh for your feline pal.

Vertical Space

Kitties can’t see much from ground level, so they often like climbing to higher vantage points. Give Fluffy some vertical space, such as a cat tower, kitty shelves, or a cat walk, so she can observe her kingdom.

Kitty TV

Believe it or not, you can actually find programs made just for cats! Some of our feline friends really seem to enjoy watching shows about birds or squirrels. (Disclaimer: results may vary.)
