Grow
Little Fido is in for one heck of a growth spurt. Most puppies grow the fastest between 3 and 6 months, but it can take two years for your pooch to reach his final adult form. That growth stage puts a lot of stress on your furry buddy’s bones and joints. Proper nutrition is of course an absolute must here. Ask your vet for specific recommendations.
Learn New Things
Fido is a wonderful pet, but he does need some guidance when it comes to learning how to be a good boy. Some of the things your canine buddy should learn this year? Basic obedience commands, such as Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down, are definitely a must. Drop It and Leave It are both helpful as well. You’ll also need to work on house training, crate training, and house rules, such as staying off couches.
Be A Good Boy
Fido is super cute when he’s soaking up praise. Positive reinforcement is key to raising a polite dog. Incorporate lots of treats and praise, and don’t take the joy out of the process by boring him with long, drawn-out classes.

This one is actually much more important than you may realize. Socialization is absolutely crucial for young dogs. Expose Fido to new places and experiences, and introduce him to all sorts of people.
Dental Care
Teething is a big thing in that first year. Chewing helps relieve that mouth pain, so little Fido will want to gnaw on, well everything. Provide lots of suitable chew toys, and be diligent about puppyproofing. Ask your vet for specific advice.
