Acupuncture and Low Level Light Laser Therapy

October 7 2019

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the stimulation of points on the body that have the ability to help the body heal itself. Not only has it been used for thousand of years, but it was often the primary treatment before medicines and surgery took place. In traditional theories, a disease is described as an imbalance of energy in the body and Acupuncture therapy (in result) is based upon balancing the energy.

Can you tell me how will my Pet Handle Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is performed with a very small and sterilized needles. Most pets don’t even respond to the insertion of the needles! Once the needles are inserted, your pet will become very relaxed and may even rest for the remainder of the treatment. Pretty amazing right?

At Southlake Animal Hospital we can pair, Acupuncture with Low Light Laser Therapy for the best results.

What is Low Light Laser Therapy?

Low light laser therapy is a red or infrared light that is applied to the anatomical area that is in need of treatment. These wavelengths of light penetrate in the tissues, the cells then absorb light energy which will initiate a multitude of physiological changes.  It achieves these effects by acting at the cellular level, (much like photosynthesis process within plants). Inside every cell there is something called a Mitochondria. The Mitochondria produces the energy (ATP) – this is what the cells need to function normally. Laser therapy has a photochemical and biochemical effect the cells and that is what differs from the photothermal effects of a surgical or “hot” laser. Frankly speaking- low level light therapy stimulates the body which aids toward promoting healing and inhibits pain thus providing effective relief of discomforts and improves the quality of life.

**Results are often observed within 2-3 treatments!**
