DIY Cat Purrniture

June 15 2018

Does your feline pal have some furniture of her own? If so, that’s great. While Fluffy can somehow manage to make herself comfortable on our things, she really does benefit from having some pieces that suit her specific kitty needs. You don’t have to break the bank getting your pet’s furniture, however. There are some really great pieces you can make yourself at home! A Crown Point, IN vet lists some of them in this article.

Cat Tower

An old stepladder can be repurposed into a cat tower in just a few hours. First, attach smooth boards to the steps to widen them out. Then, wrap the whole thing in carpet or sisal rope. This method also works for bookshelves and metal storage racks. If you want to try something a bit more challenging, make a tower from scratch out of lumber or PVC pipe.

Window Seat

Birdwatching is pretty high on the list of kitties’ favorite activities. Make Fluffy a comfy window seat by adding a smooth plank to your windowsill. Your furry voyeur may spend hours just relaxing and spying on local wildlife!

Catwalk

Many cats really love vertical space. If you are constantly plucking your furball off bookcases or countertops, make her a catwalk. All you need are sturdy shelves! Just be sure to brace them so they won’t tip or fall over. You can wrap the shelves in carpet to make them more comfortable.

Pet Tent

All you need to make Fluffy a kitty tent is an old tee shirt and a wire hangar. Look online for step-by-step instructions.

Box Palace

This one won’t last as long as the other options, but it’s bound to bring on the purr. Use regular cardboard boxes to make your furry little diva her own castle. This can be as simple as just attaching a few boxes together. Or, you can make Fluffy a fancy palace, complete with towers, turrets, and kitty courtyard.

Beds

As far as Fluffy is concerned, one simply cannot have too many napping spots. Make your kitty a cute bed by upcycling a hard-shell suitcase or hatbox, end table, or wicker basket. Use stain or varnish to make it look nice, and then add soft blankets and pillows to make it comfy.
