Spoil Your Dog Day

August 1 2017

Did you know that August 10th is Spoil Your Dog Day? We know, for some pups, every day is Spoil Your Dog Day. We love seeing pampered, healthy dogs! However, there is much more to keeping Fido happy than just giving him yummy snacks and belly rubs. Read on as a Crown Point, IN vet offers some tips on how to spoil your dog.

Comfy Bed

Make sure your canine companion has a comfy bed to snuggle up. This is especially important as your faithful pet ages. Buy—or make—your pooch a good doggy bed. It’s ok for Fido to have more than one!

Good Food

Nothing gets Fido’s tail wagging like a yummy snack! Treat your furry pal to something special, like a plain hamburger or even a steak. Just be sure to choose only safe, suitable snacks. Ask your vet for recommendations.

Elevated Dishes

Medium and large dogs often find it much easier to eat from elevated doggy dishes. Fido has to strain his neck to eat from bowls on the floor, which can be quite uncomfortable. Give your pet a dinnerware pupgrade.

Toys and Entertainment

Man’s Best Friend is both curious and intelligent, and will get bored and restless with nothing to do. Fido should always have plenty of fun playthings. Get your furry buddy a new doggy toy.

Doghouse

Dogs are both happier and healthier living indoors, but that doesn’t mean Fido won’t be delighted to have his own little hangout spot in the yard. A doghouse would be a great gift!

Playtime

Spend some extra time walking Fido and playing with him. You can even treat your canine friend with a fun trip to a doggy park. You’ll be rewarded with doggy kisses, tail wags, and unconditional love, which are all precious gifts in our book.

Veterinary Care

While Fido would probably much rather visit a doggy park than go to the vet, he’ll both look and feel better with proper veterinary care. Regular exams, parasite control, and vaccinations are all very important! Follow your vet’s recommendations for appointment schedules. At home, watch for signs of sickness, and contact your vet immediately if you notice anything amiss. Take a few minutes to schedule your four-legged pal’s next appointment.
